2020 Energy Star Tax Credits for Windows and Doors

Installing Energy Star Rated products, like Harvey Windows, improve a home’s comfort, and help protect the environment. Also, these products help homeowners save money. Not only by helping to lower heating/cooling bills. But also, with tax credits & rebates*. There are also special credits for installers. They serve as an added incentive to sell and install energy-efficient products. Here are the 2020 Energy Star Tax Credits for windows, doors and other products.

Homeowner Credits

Tax Credit Amount: 10% of the cost, up to $500, with windows are capped at $200 (does not include installation cost.)

Requirements: Windows and Doors must be Energy Star qualified.

Details: Only windows replaced or installed into a new opening will qualify. Must be an existing home or principal residence.

Installer Credits

Tax Credit Amount: Homebuilders are eligible for a $2,000 tax credit for a new-build energy-efficient home.

Requirements: Must achieve 50% energy savings for heating and cooling over the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and supplements.

Details: At least 1/5 of the energy savings have to come from building envelope improvements.

ENERGY STAR ZONES

U-Factor (insulating performance) and SHGc (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) ratings determine Energy Star rating requirements. Also, keep in mind, high Solar Heat Gain (SHGc) glazing is intended for use in the Northern Energy Star climate zone only.

The Northern Energy Star climate zone is the BLUE region on the map. High SHGc glazing qualifies for the Northern Energy Star climate zone. It does so by meeting the Equivalent Energy Performance (EEP) criteria shown below.
